April 25: What was the first thing that you did when you got your driver's license?

...I never got my driver's license.

Seriously! There's so many bad drivers out there.
I mean, I'm a bad driver myself... but that's why I don't drive!!! I'm considerate of others lives XD

Do you at least have a bike or something?

Just curious with how you get around. To also throw off any air of judgement this comment MAY have, I've actually thought about getting a bike myself but...see how safe it is first).

& I do have a bike!

If you're considering using a bike to get around tho, I highly recommend having lights on it, having a helmet, etc. or just avoiding riding at night (I did get hit by a truck once and had to be life-flighted, so that's why I say that).

Other than that, I also get rides to town with loved ones (who also happen to have health conditions that make them reluctant to go to town by themselves, so they're actually usually the ones to ask me to accompany them).

I'll pay for a ride or carpool with friends if there's a special event I want to go to. When I lived in the city though, I just rode the bus or my bike.

Texas drivers are bad, like really bad. Too many aggressive people with big ass trucks. In the RGV, a lot of those people didn't have insurance either, so having an accident with them could leave you to be bankrupt.

Do you have access to buses there?

Tell me about it! On top of all that, there's an unsettling amount of hatred towards pedestrians and cyclists who also use the roads :(

Where I'm at now there's no buses, but they do have fantastic metro systems in places like Houston, Austin, etc. (and Galveston has trolleys!).

I'm in southeast TX, pretty close to the Gulf Coast. The town I'm in is relatively small and rural, but Galveston and Houston are only like an hour away for those who do drive.

I was in McAllen and Donna, TX in the summer of 2019. I sorta like that area. The food was good! McAllen being a college town had a lot of cool things going on there. The Coast Guard almost sent me to Port Arthur, TX for a year plus, but I was able to get out of it. In hindsight, I wish I had gone as it would have resulted in some cool experiences.

I like Texas, but the politics and lack of concern for its people suck.

Have you seen "hell or high water?"

I've never been to McAllen or Donna, but I have a friend who worked in McAllen and they seemed to have liked it pretty well, especially in comparison to surrounding areas.

My sentiments exactly. Texas actually has a lot of great food and landscapes, interesting people, good music, etc. but unfortunately all we're known for rn is racist, slack jawed red-hats and platinum blonde Stepford tradwives. :(

EDIT: also no, I haven't seen Hell or High Water yet. Should I have?

Hell or High Water is an AMAZING movie. It's a sociopolitical commentary about Texas life, and it's set against bank robberies. incredible film.
